Michelle & Allistiar - Amazing Engagement Story in Spain

My name is Michelle and I got engaged to my fiancé, Allistair, September 28, 2016 ... in Spain!!! This was our first trip together visiting a friend and going from city to city, staying in cute little AirBnb's. At the beginning of our trip, we planned to rent a car and drive from Madrid to Granada and up the Sierra Nevada mountains. On a side note, we are really into Top Gear, an English tv show that focuses on rating and testing cars from all over the world. One of their episodes was featured in Spain. We saw the beautiful drive up the Sierra Nevada on the television and said let's do it! It was incredible! I couldn't get over the olive trees on the mountains that grew so perfectly in line. It almost looked 8 bit, it was so perfect.
As we got closer to Granada, the mountains just kept getting bigger and bigger. We started our drive up the Sierra Nevada and kept pulling over at lookouts to take it all in. Each one was better than the last. Our goal was to get to the top, 2,500m above sea level, just like in the show. As we got higher, mountains that seemed huge before were looking tiny. When we reached the end of the road, we parked and decided to walk up the mountain further. It was quite cold and windy up there, but we were determined to get higher. We came across an observatory that belonged to the university there. We both agreed to walk up the goat path to reach it, me in flip flops and Allistair in shorts. We were freezing! Thankfully we made it and for some reason, up there, the wind died and the sun warmed us up. We were looking out at the beautiful landscape and taking it all in when he said "can it get any better than this?". I said no way and turned around to see him down on one knee with a beautiful ring that was given to him by his grandmother. I was in shock and so incredibly happy! Obviously I said yes!!!! We stayed up there for a while and even took some of the rocks home as keepsakes. I felt like Monica from Friends, yelling out I'M ENGAGED from the top of a mountain. We also found the 2,500m sign and got pictures of us there, recently engaged! The sun was beginning to set, so we decided to drive back down the mountain and catch it at one of the beautiful lookouts. Incredibly romantic! I couldn't have asked for a better proposal! We enjoyed the rest of our trip as cutesy lovebirds. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be marrying this incredible man! Thanks for taking to the time to read our story! Michelle & Allistiar |
