My fiance and I met in 2007 while we were in high school. He was the athletic senior and I was the new fresh face on campus. After bonding over basketball and music we quickly developed a strong relationship and maintained our relationship once he departed for school in the US. Unfortunately our relationship ended as we felt we needed to discover ourselves and explore everything post secondary had to offer. We told ourselves that if it's meant to be, we would find each other when the time was right. In February 2015 I sent him a message on Facebook inviting him to a basketball event. In the back of my mind, I just really wanted to see him, I really wanted to rekindle our fire. He later accepted and we had dinner after the event, it was like nothing changed.
We started dating again and I told him how important family was to me and that hopefully one day we could share a life together and have a family of our own. He agreed and promised to make me his queen once the time was right. On September 12, 2015 the best thing in my life to date happened. We woke up in the morning 10 days after our anniversary and he told me to get ready for breakfast. We attended breakfast at a very cute family restaurant and had our favorite meal, chocolate chip pancakes. Shortly after he brought me to the spa /nail salon to get a manicure and pedicure. After the spa, we went back home and there was an outfit waiting for me in our bedroom with a note that read "an outfit fit for a queen". I got ready and he did the same. I had no idea where we were going, I thought maybe a movie or to take some pictures on the rooftop to remember the day. He arranged a private limo and advised the driver not to mention the location of where we were going. To my surprise we ended up at Billy Bishop airport. I was confused, I didn't know why we were there. I wore heels and my feet began to hurt as we walked through the airport, he then picked me up and carried me to the helicopter dock. He planned a helicopter tour over the downtown core of Toronto. It was the most beautiful scenery. While we were in the helicopter he kissed me and told me that he wanted to make me as happy as I have ever been. I smiled and said the same thing back. Once our tour was done, we got back into our limo and went to a steak house. I was really excited, I love me some steak, and who better to have a great meal with than him. After entering the building, we walked into a private room where my entire family was waiting. I immediately knew something was up. My dad who I haven't seen in over 15 years was there and I started crying, with tears of happiness of course. I had no idea he reached out to my father, who traveled half way across the world to be there for this moment. After we had dinner, he began to get everyone's attention and started his speech. He then proposed and I couldn't even get the words out, I was frozen, heart beating fast as ever. I said yes and the rest is history. I am now engaged to my best friend and look forward to spending my life with him. He made me the happiest I've ever been and I am grateful that he involved the people I hold dearest to my heart, my family. What an amazing way to start life together, with a strong family foundation. |
