If you are having a formal wedding, then a caterer is the best choice for help. Try to have the reception at the same location as the wedding. This helps with traveling back and forth. The other choice would be to hold the wedding reception at the hotel the wedding guests are staying at. Then, when it is over, everyone can go straight to their rooms.
Make sure to check all wedding guests for any food allergies and dietary needs. This is thoughtfulness and caring. Make a list of those guests and turn it into the servers. Then, when your special guests need to be served, they will have choices just for them.
If you are having a causal wedding, you can rent the banquet room at your favorite local restaurant. Then, everyone can order as they wish. A family member may offer to have it at their house in a casual setting. Everyone can relax and eat finger foods. Sandwiches, chips and dip, vegetable and cheese trays are great items to have. This helps if people are dieting and if it's a summer wedding, it will be really hot.
